Mike Huddleston

Engineering Manager at GEICO, Retired

After 36 years working in a variety of roles at GEICO, a company of over 40,000 associates and headquartered near Washington, DC, Mike retired in December 2022. Mike worked in IT for 29 of those 36 years, and for 20 of those years he served as a team lead, technical supervisor, and most recently as an engineering manager, supervising teams from five associates to over 30 associates and contractors. Of the many aspects of this work, the most rewarding for Mike was mentoring and career development for his team members. Mike also had the honor of being one of two company-wide co-chairs for GEICO's Employee Resource Group for associates with disabilities. This provided many opportunities to engage with and learn from other associates within the disability community, work with HR to improve opportunities and hiring guidelines, and to encourage self-advocacy. Mike is a member of the disability community, having been diagnosed with a progressively degenerative condition at the age of 16.

Since retiring, in addition to serving on the board of Disability Partnerships, Mike is an advocate for advancing disability rights and spends time volunteering with four additional organizations within the disability community, hoping to serve as an example of the possible and appreciates having the time to give back after a long and successful career. These other organizations range from serving as a regional ambassador for an international organization, mentoring high school students transitioning to careers or college, and working with a local accessible sailing organization.

Originally from California, Mike and his wife of over 40 years, Debbie, live in Maryland. Mike holds a BS degree in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland.
